September 2012 See Sues new photography show at the Saratoga Springs Public Library Hallway Gallery!!!

See Sues new photography show, through the month of September, at the Saratoga Springs Library.This library  has it's very own cafe - "Higher Grounds," with A+ food, a terrific used book store, and a gallery in the hallway. That is where you will see Sues new exhibition of her Western photography. Let Sue know if you visit! Many people were already admiring  her photography, as she hung the show!

The fine art print "Cadillac Man" took a First Place blue ribbon award at the tri-county Altamont Fair!!!

How cool is that?

Also Sue's "Bee Condo" took a 4th place ribbon in the agriculture theme photography competiton.

Sue selected again as a Metroland Photoland Finalist, in their bi-weekly public photo competition!!! The theme was "festival."

"Fiesta" was taken in the Old Taos Square area of New Mexico, when I attended the wild mustang photography workshop out of Taos. The old restaurant had not served a dinner in years... the building was closed for business. The  sun was setting on the adobe walls, adding to the beautiful color display. I was again rewarded for  my "wondering off the beaten track " drive, when I came upon this abandoned building in the way back of the square.

Sue had a lovely weekend as a guest artist at Sharon Crutes Gallery, in the historic Beekman Street Art District of Saratoga.

What generous and down to earth people that Beekman Street dynamite couple Sharon Crute and Mike Bray, are! Sharon has opened her own gallery at 70 B Beekman Street, in the historic Beekman Art District of Saratoga. She has on display her beautiful  scenes of horses racing, running, trotting, and more.  Her work is recognized internationally. Mike and Sharon not only offer original paintings, and  prints, Sharons work is reproduced on numerous items, including small prints, mugs and computer mouse pads! -  a price point for everyone walking into her gallery. I knew I had met an extraordinary couple, the first time I met them, as they took the time to talk to me, and they really listen. They also are up to reviving the historic Beekman Street Art District. Mike and Sharon have done much work here, meeting with the players of Saratoga, and inviting local artists to join them in this exciting direction. From the looks of the crowds this weekend, Beekman Street is alive and flourishing! We met many other people during this weekends Saratoga Arts Fest and Sunday Art Walk, that have also contributed to the Beekman Street growth. What a thrilling group! A big thanks to Sharon and Mike for welcoming my "Western Americana" photography into their studio. Many friends came to visit. A big shout out to Peaceful Acres staff,    peacefulacreshorses.org   that came in large numbers. Love ya all! Kay Olan - Mohawk Educator and  Storyteller, friends, family and new associates! Sharon has extended my show through  next Saturday. In the future , we may be doing more work together! Thank-you Sharon and Mike! 

What photography subjects of mine were people most interested in? The Navajo Code Talker brought much interest, along with  the fighting horses, and the Tombstone cowboys. People loved the beautiful barrel racer images too.  Stop in to Sharon and Mikes , if you get a chance, and tell them Sue sent ya!

We also heard a fabulous duet duo singing at The Local Saturday evening.  Very little stops me  in my tracks, but their sound did it. Tim Wechgelaer, and partner, were the best! What beautiful guitar work and voices. Tim said they have playing engagements all over town. I hope to see them again. Along with Rich Ortiz, they have become one of my favorite local bands.           twecmusic.com

Paris Photo competition

Oh, and I entered my barrel racing portraits into the Marie Claire Paris  photo competition. The requirements were that   photographers  submit photos focusing on women, taken on a single day. Well, wasn't that one right up my alley! Winners are announced in September. Stay tuned!
