This shot was too much fun, AND, ended up being juried into the Saratoga Arts "Saratoga: Inside Out" show, I believe in 2006. This prestigious show is held produced every summer at Saratoga Arts Gallery, on Broadway, in Saratoga, NY. The "call for entry " to artists, for this yearly juried show, is to take an icon of Saratoga, and turn it "inside out," for a completely different view of Saratoga. You submit your art work, and it is either selected (juried in,) by a qualified judge, or not.
I delight in creative thinking, so came up with an idea at once. I agreed with myself that a child's interpretation of a thoroughbred, would be perhaps a Stick Pony. Once I located the fuchsia Stick Pony, I needed to locate a farm, for the background shots. While trying to remain dignified and professional, with Stick Pony in hand, I knocked on several farmers doors. I explained what I needed to do, and to my absolute amazement, they allowed me to wander their farm, and shoot Stick Pony in various locations. I always had that feeling of being watched... by the horses and the owners and the dogs...who could blame them???
I can't imagine what the farmer / dinner table conversation would have been that night-
Farmer to his wife: "Yep, now I've seen it all. That girl is quite off her rocker, Martha."
Wife: "Yes, George, but her stick pony was mighty cute. Poor thing just needs friends, that's all. "
